When I setup a recording studio in my mom’s basement nearly 30 years ago, I had no idea what was to come of it. At an early age, I discovered I had a gift for creating music. A buddy and I teamed up to start a small production company. There were a bunch of kids at my school who were rappers and singers, and we used to make beats for them them charge them to record in my home studio. I was in my early stages of becoming an entrepreneur.
After high school, I majored in music in college, and later graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Management. At the time, I was working as a retail sales manager, while producing music and doing recording sessions on the side. It was my dream to earn a full-time income from music, so I made a bold decision to quit my job to open a recording studio business. It was in 1996 that Deal Witit Productions, LLC was born.
I ran the business out of my home for 5 years, acquiring more than 200 clients who were coming to me on a regular basis. As my clientele grew, I began to expand into other services such as graphic and web design. Although the business was doing great, I grew weary out all the traffic coming in and out of my home. It was time to move the business to the next level.
In 2000, I leased a 2,400 square foot office space and had it renovated into a recording studio. We opened for business later that year under the name DWP Music Services. Our clients were primarily artists, songwriters, and musicians. I saw first-hand how some record labels were making money off artists by exploiting their talents and not fairly compensating them. I used my degree in Music Management to develop products and services that gave artists, songwriters, and musicians the ability to put their music directly in the hands of the consumer.
For 11 years we were “The Independent Musician’s One-Stop!” During that time period I’ve had the pleasant of assisting hundreds of artists, bands, and songwriters further their career in music.
In 2011, I re-branded the company again, this time changing the name to DWP Multimedia. My intent was to attract more business from non music clientele. I assembled a creative team, and we began to take on graphic and web design projects from businesses in the Metropolitan Detroit area. We had fun working together, coming up with creative ideas to help our clients.
Soon, our web services accounted for 75% of the overall business. I found myself wearing too many hats, jumping back and forth from recording engineer to music producer to graphic and web designer. Although I loved them all, I knew in order to grow to my greatest potential I had to let something go. In 2014, I made a hard decision to close the studio portion of my business down to completely focus on web based services. It was a wise decision.
I became of student of internet marketing, investing thousands of dollars into my education. I attended mastermind events where I learned blogging and social media marketing techniques from some of the industry’s top 6 and 7-figure online marketers. I began applying what I learned into my online business, and I soon was earning income through affiliate and CPA (Cost Per Action) marketing, as well as my own products. I aquired an arsenal of tools to leverage and automate the process.
Now, I’m utilizing my 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, my skills as a web designer and my online marketing know how to help small businesses expand their online presence and increase their bottom line. My greatest passion is breathing life into the ideas of my clients. My biggest reward is hearing the success stories of my clients based on my efforts. I’m looking forward to hearing yours.
